BIOGRAPHY
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Khairiah Abd Karim holds a PhD in Biochemical Engineering from The University of Manchester, UK and is a researcher at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). Her work focuses on plant cell culture, bioethanol production, and sustainable waste management, including patchouli oil enhancement, microbial fuel cells, and organic fertilizer production. She contributes to green technology and bioprocess optimization.
RESEARCH INTERESTS
Dr. Khairiah’s research focuses on bioprocess engineering, plant biotechnology, and sustainable waste utilization. She explores bioethanol production using Kluyveromyces marxianus and Metabolic Flux Analysis, optimizes patchouli oil production via plant cell culture, and develops organic fertilizers from chicken waste. She works on microbial fuel cells and eco-friendly corrosion inhibitors, promoting green technology and industrial sustainability
