BIOGRAPHY
As a digital sociologist, I explore how social media and algorithms shape relationships and everyday interactions. From digital intimacy to viral trends, I study technology’s influence on how we live, connect and make decisions. My research has been supported by the FRGS, Sumitomo Foundation and Japan Foundation. I lead #ProjekBFF on intergenerational digital literacy and developing University of the Third Age (U3A) initiatives for older adults.
RESEARCH INTERESTS
My research centres on social media and social interaction across three areas: 1) digital intimacy and relational bonds, including friendship, gender and intergenerational digital literacy and inclusion; 2) social influence and platform cultures, including UGC, influencers, public health, women’s digital entrepreneurship, tourism and fandoms; and 3) algorithmic decision-making: how viral trends, FOMO and personalised feeds shape everyday choices.
