BIOGRAPHY
Before academia, I worked on monitoring Putrajaya Lake and Wetlands and managed water resources for the largest water treatment company in Malaysia. I teach environmental subjects and conduct research on toxin-producing cyanobacteria in Malaysia and internationally, including in Indonesia, the United Kingdom, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Antarctica. I had the privilege of joining British Antarctic Survey expeditions in 2015, 2016, and 2023.
RESEARCH INTERESTS
I research toxin-producing cyanobacteria in water bodies, microbial ecology, algae, and environmental forensics. My work includes drinking water quality, plastic and hydrocarbon degradation using microbes, biodiesel and scytonemin production from algae and cyanobacteria, as well as exploring the potential of beneficial Antarctic microbes.
